Now is interesting. Since I last posted we've seen our economy headed in a downward spiral. What are your feelings on it all? Are you worried? Are you scared? Are you fine? Are you doing anything differently now than you were before?
I'm not worried about my own family, thank goodness. However, it is crazy that the economy is in this downward spiral because of the stupidity of its citizens (at least that's how I feel :) ). Come on people, what's so hard about the phrase "Live within your means?!" Why have we become the nation of "bigger is better", "anything you can buy I can buy bigger", or "who cares if I can't pay for this now i want it so i'll figure it out later...then oops! I can't pay for this anymore, oh well, the gov't will bail me out" I just hope we can all learn our lessons and come out of this a better and smarter nation. Do you think we'll be able to do that?
Hey Maurine, I actually got that Rod from a place called Rod Works. It's here in Utah. I know that they don't ship, but maybe you could see?? Hope that helps! Thanks a bunch. Cute boys btw! Shelley
Maurine, Hope you are doing well. Interesting topic, the economy, since it seems to be on every ones mind. Right now, Ben and I count ourselves as lucky to be in school rather than the workforce where people are worried everyday about loosing their jobs. We do hope the economy turns around in the next year or so because that's when we're done with school. I think that the mortgage companies are the ones who really led the sinking ship because they allowed people to borrow amounts that they never would be able to pay. Hind sight is 20/02.
My feelings on the economy vary a lot. For one thing I start to get pretty scared every time I think about how much money our government is printing to "fix" this. I think we're headed for a lot of inflation down the road. But overall, I am not too worried. In a recession (and even a depression), the vast majority of people still have a job. Some people might not make as much as they used to, but most people will still have a job (like 90-92% will!). That brings me comfort.
And a big difference for us is just that we've been trying to save more. I know that if we weren't in a recession I probably already would have purchased a flat screen and a new kitchen table, but Erick and I have decided to wait until things get a little more stable. But, I certainly have not stopped spending altogether!! I'm still decorating my house! I'm just doing it in small amounts.
I'm not sure this recession should really be a suprise to anyone. Anyone who has studied American History or the "Pride Cycle" knows that this is how it goes. You have times of proseperity and times of recession/depression. Unfortunately the greater population has to suffer the consequences of the choices of others who took advantage of the time of prosperity. I think living within your means and making sacrifices is the best way to combat these times. I also thing that the choices you make as an individual and as families are important, are you setting yourself up for security and success? I think you can so that if you do loose a job, you'll be okay. I'm sure someone who has been effected by the recession would have a different opinion, this is just mine.
Originally this blog was where my friends and I discussed fun questions, but now that I've run out of great questions, and there are people that want to know what's going on in our lives, I will be doing normal family post stuff. I will still have fun questions every now and then though.
