Some politikin'

So how does everyone feel about McCain? A lot of conservatives say he's too far center, or even left. A lot feel like he doesn't represent conservative beliefs at all. If you have an opinion share it. If not, you should go get one and come back when you do. Also, what is important to you in this election? Can changes be made?

I would say that a majority of my past votes have been for republicans, but thats not the case with all and it's not what makes up my mind. With that said, Mcain gives me the creeps. I don't know why, I can't explain it, I just know how i feel and its that i dont trust him. I'm not really much on democrats or republicans. I usually go with how honest of a person i think they are. I feel like if it's between mcain and hillary then obviously i'd vote for mcain. If it is between him and Obama, I would have to say that I think my vote will go for
Barrack. My mind is not completly made up though because we they haven't named their running mates which may help sway me. I feel that Barrack would make the most change and seems to be the most genuine and honest of the three. To me he seems to be the lesser of all evils, which is how i usually view any political race. All I know is the day Hillary is made prez my eyes will go straight to the heavens waiting to see Christ. Opinionated i know, but that's how I truly feel.

Hmmm, Is it wrong for me to say that I think that McCain might just be too dang old? My grandma is just a couple of years older than him and she's been retired for years. I don't know. I also think he will just continue on with the war, and we've gotten no where in what...five years? I just want it to stop. He also knows nothing about the economy and has no great plans to save social security or do anything about immigration. I just can't see voting for him.

i agree. My husband is all for him (mostly because he is repulblican) I just don't like to be defined or imprisoned by that. I feel like Mccain and Hillary are just too grounded into how politics are now and outdated for where our country needs to be. It is such a different world than it used to be and we need a completly new and different approach to how it is run. That is what I feel Obama brings to the table.

I also agree with you on the war Maurine. I feel it's a little scary to just pull out due to all of the extreme sects left alive and ticked off at us. I also feel like we haven't, as the song says, "done any good in the world today" in at least a few years. We do need to find a way to get out of there with out really making people hate americans even more than they already do.

For some reason when I watch McCain all I see is some old jock that, if given the chance, would still get a kick out of towel popping guys in the locker room. I don't think I'd vote for him ever.
In terms of any changes? I think that any change will be good. But I think that no matter who gets in there, once they're there, they'll see all the information and a lot of things will probably stay the same for a while. I'd love to be out of the war, I just don't know if we can just up and leave any time soon.
I love all the talk of doing more as a whole to be more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. I know it's not one of those major issues, but I have to admit it sounds enticing to me. I don't know if it's realistic though. I think there are too many dumb, fat Americans to change anything. (Sorry to any dumb, fat Americans out there...)
The price of gas is absolutely blowing my mind. I think it's out of control and something has to be done. I'm lucky to live in such a small town where I can walk, literally, everywhere. I couldn't afford to live in Charlotte anymore. Or maybe I'd be in super good shape there. Anyways, I'd like to see some tweaking there.

But like Zach says, if we really want to see change in the world, it all has to start in our own communities. It's local government that ususally makes the bigger impact in our lives. That's something I could certainly do better at.

I don't really hate McCain. I think that he is the most honest of the candidates. He doesn't try to gloss over his record. More importantly, He isn't making his choices based solely on what the republican party would do. He has worked with independents and democrats many times. In fact, he is criticized for this.

I'm not sure that he'll be elected, and I cannot yet decide which candidate will receive my vote, but I feel like he is less polarizing than either Barak or Clinton.

The thing that worries me about Barak is that he is so vague. He is "inspirational," but all he says is "Change." Well, DUH! But he will never really define his changes.

Clinton. haha.

Oh - and McCain has a REALLY good economist with whom he is working.

There are a lot of things going on, but I think it is idiotic for us to blame it on the president. It is OUR fault that the housing crisis is happening. We are the ones living out of our means. I'm not surprised about gas prices. We have been getting a WAY good deal for a long time. I was in Europe three years ago, and the price of unleaded fuel was about 6.5 bucks a gallon. That was before oil was $122. a barrel. In fact, that was when oil was about fifty bucks a barrel. We've had it really good for a long time, and we knew it. We just keep buying big houses and big SUVs - both of which increase our dependency on foreign oil.

Obviously, my family is dependent on oil. I don't want to sound like a huge hypocrite. I just don't think that we can blame it on the president. - I agree with katie. We are the ones, in our local communities, who will make a change.

Wow, lots of good points made! I missed out this past week since Cathryn had her baby! :)

Anyway, yeah I really have no clue who to vote for? I do know this, if this race comes down to Clinton and McCain, McCain will get my vote. Please, no offense to any Hillary supporters, but she drives me insane! Not to mention, the "Clinton Family's" time is up as far as the White House goes, kinda, "been there, done that." (Yes, even though, I know it was a different world in the 90's). Plus, not to sound like I don't think it's great she's running (as a fellow female) but, I honestly don't know how I feel about a female President? I guess b/c we have ALWAYS had male Presidents in this country...I can't picture a woman running the USA...does that make sense?

I want to like Obama, but I agree with "Chococatania"...he keeps saying "Change" alot... :) I'm kinda like thinking, "Okay, next."

McCain I have to agree with Katie! I was thinking the same thing, that isn't he a little old to be a President? But, that's just me...and not that there's anything wrong with that, I'm just saying. I think he is kind of center though...doesn't set well with all us conservatives -who were all with Romney! :) hehehe

P.S. I seriously mean no offense to anyone who reads Maurine's blog. Politics is one of those touchy subjects that people want to talk about (at least I do), but also don't want to offend anyone at the same time. :)

Well Carmen, this is a place where I hope we can express ourselves in a tasteful way and not be afraid that others will judge us for our opinions. I want us to feel like we can say what we want, and I feel like we can. That's what I hate about the "real world"--you always have to be so concerned that what you're saying might offend someone. But I like it that I have a place where I can ask questions that interest me and other people, and we can all talk like adults who don't get offended at nothing. So go ahead and say how you feel!

Carmen -
I agree with what Maurine said. I feel like everyone is gracious, but that doesn't mean we have the exact same opinion. I'm glad that you shared how you felt about your political views!

Ok, my two cents...if it's not too late...
I have to say I agree with a lot of points on here.
As an older person(I am sure older then anyone else posting here) I can't stand any of them. I have NO idea who I am going to vote for. To it's down to who I I feel is the lesser of the evil! I was a Mitt fan all the way and since he left, I don't know what I am going to do.
I do have to say, if it's between McMain and Hilliary, I WILL NOT vote for Hilliary. NOT ONE MINUTE!
If it's between McMain and Obama...COUNT out Obama too.
SO, who does that leave...MCMAIN. Am I happy about it HECK no.
As far as the war goes, it's been going on for a long time. We read in the scriptures were war has always been around...even in heaven. SO, I am not sure how to escape that. Part of the reason we are in this mess is because of the dang Man Clinton who ignored this years ago. So, war maybe be a part of this old world until the Savior comes again.
As far as change goes, every president wants to change something. It's hard to change a whole country in just 4 years. I mean face it, it's got to be approved by Congress. Think about it.
This new president, whomever it is, will try to change the world.
First and foremost, we must change ourselves, and then our families, and then our communities, and so forth. It starts within.
I am afraid of the times ahead. Certainly things are going to get worse before they get better. Signs of the times.
That's my two cents worth, for what it's worth!
